Van Gennep, a world leader in editorial planning and publishing, is entering into a global agreement with Aquafadas, the developer of tablet and mobile app publishing solutions. Van Gennep will continue to focus on editorial planning and workflow, flatplanning and magazine layout, while Aquafadas will link to the information store of Van Gennep and allow publishers to create tablet/mobile versions of their magazines with a few simple clicks.
Magazine production is facing the challenge of unlocking content to the web and rapidly producing tablet/mobile app versions of publications that correspond to the printed magazine. At the same time, publishing is increasingly interfacing with social media, adding an additional layer of workflow complexity.
Van Gennep has always been the strategic vendor for leading publishers in Europe, and has an impressive customer portfolio, including Prisma Presse (France), Sanoma Media (Belgium), Bauer Media (Germany, France and Spain), and Hearst Magazines Netherlands — all top market players. This strategic alliance will strengthen Van Gennep’s market position further.
Ton Van Gennep, CEO at Van Gennep: “What we observed was a real need to deliver tools that can publish magazine content directly to all media channels, including tablets and other evolving devices. Our customers made it clear what their solution of choice on the market is, and as a result, we are today delighted to announce the successful outcome of a new partnership with Aquafadas, where we are delivering content from our Van Gennep platform to the Aquafadas engine for mobile publishing.”
It’s of key importance for publishers to be able to adopt a digital publishing strategy in a flexible way, without the need to go through a steep learning curve. And they need to link this to advanced sales and advertising tools in order to create a new, fast growing and profitable ecosystem in the digital sphere.
The Aquafadas solution is not just limited to fully integrated authoring tools in InDesign or QuarkXPress. It can also be connected and integrated with the different editorial workflow systems and e-commerce solutions publishers already have in place in their company. This means that companies can start publishing digital versions to tablets, mobile and beyond in next to no time, using the tools they are already familiar with.
A growing number of major press and book publishers such as Lagardère Active, Reader’s Digest and Egmont, have already decided to partner with Aquafadas and Van Gennep. The integrated solution, linking Van Gennep’s PlanSystem and Aquafadas DPS, is available today. In the near future, Aquafadas and Van Gennep will further evolve this offering based on feedback from the market, and continue to provide exciting new opportunities for the cross-media publishing world.
